U.S. initial jobless claims up modestly to 608,000; continuing claims fall


U.S. continuing jobless claims fall by 148,000.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)
Continuing jobless claims fell by 148,000 to 6.68 million during the week ending June 6, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
It was the lowest since May 9. Initial claims, meanwhile, rose by 3,000 to 608,000. The four-week average of continuing claims rose by 2,250 to 6.75 million. The insured unemployment rate -- the proportion of insured workers who are collecting benefits -- fell to 5.0%, down 0.1 percentage point.

Las peticiones iniciales de desempleo subieron ligeramente por encima de lo previsto al aumentar hasta los 608.000 parados, algo más que los 604.000 previstos. Pese a superar las expectativas, este incremento es menor que el registrado la semana anterior cuando las peticiones subieron en 610.000 solicitantes. Los reclamos continuos se situaron en 6.687.000 peticiones, más de los previsto.
