GE, Ohio Company Plan Wind-Power Project In Lake Erie

General Electric Co. (GE), the Fairfield, Conn., industrial and financial-services giant, and Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. of Northern Ohio will partner to develop what they called the first freshwater offshore wind farm in the U.S. In a statement Monday, the two said they would install GE turbines at the nonprofit regional economic-development corporation's planned 20-megawatt project in the Ohio waters of Lake Erie. Terms weren't disclosed. Lake Erie Energy Development hopes to complete the project in late 2012. The effort is a step toward faster deployment of wind-power projects within the Great Lakes, the company and the development firm said.
