Japanese June All Industry Activity Grows Unexpectedly

(RTTNews) - Japanese all industry activity grew unexpectedly by 0.1% month-on-month in June, unchanged from the prior growth, data from the Ministry of Trade, Economy and Industry showed Thursday. Economists were expecting a 0.3% fall.

Construction activity dipped 1.8% on a monthly comparison, after recording 9.2% growth in May. At the same time, decline in industrial production was 1.1%, reversing last month's 0.1% rise. Tertiary industry activity dropped 0.1%, much smaller than the 0.8% fall seen in the previous month. Meanwhile, the index for government services recorded 0.7% growth, following a 0.1% fall.
On an annual basis, all industry activity growth slowed to 3% from 3.3% in May.
