U.K. Manufacturing Slumps To Nine-Month Low

(RTTNews) - U.K. manufacturing activity fell to a nine-month low August, survey data showed on Wednesday, with rates of production and incoming new orders both slowing.

Markit Economics said the CIPS manufacturing purchasing managers' index came in at a seasonally adjusted 54.3, down from 56.9 in July.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while one below suggests contraction. Economists had expected a score of 57.0.
U.K. manufacturing output continued to rise, extending the current sequence of growth to 15 months. However, the rate of output growth was the slowest since September last year, as new orders eased sharply.
Manufacturing employment in the U.K. rose for the fifth straight month during August. Jobs growth was solid, albeit the weakest during that period.
