SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
U.S. stocks slipped Thursday, cooling the major indexes' weekly advance, though the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA 11,573, +14.00, +0.12%) managed a small session gain. The blue-chip average ended up 14 points, or 0.1%, at 11,573.49, led by Alcoa, Inc. (AA 15.37, +0.03, +0.20%) . The Dow rose 0.7% for the week.
The S&P 500 (SPX 1,257, -2.07, -0.16%) lost 2.07 points, or 0.2%, to 1,256.77, breaking a streak of five straight session gains.
It ended up 1.03% for the week.
Like the Dow, it was the benchmark's fourth straight weekly gains.
The Nasdaq Composite (COMP 2,666, -5.88, -0.22%) fell 5.88 points, or 0.2%, to 2,665.60 for the session and rose 0.9% for the week, its fifth week of gains.
U.S. markets are closed Friday for the Christmas holiday
