Irish Manufacturing Activity Rises In December

(RTTNews) - Irish manufacturing sector expanded in December led by solid growth in new orders and production, data from Markit Economics showed Monday.
The seasonally adjusted NCB manufacturing purchasing managers' index, or PMI, rose to 52.2 in December from 51.2 in November. A reading above 50 indicates expansion of the sector, while one below suggests contraction.
The improvements were recorded despite disruption caused by poor weather conditions, Markit said. New business continued to rise, reflecting marked growth in new export orders from Asia, the Middle East and the U.K.

Irish manufacturing production increased for a tenth successive month with the latest expansion being the steepest since June. Input cost inflation remained elevated in December, despite easing slightly over the month. Output prices fell as manufacturers offered discounts in an attempt to stimulate new business.
Firms raised employment for the first time in seven months, in response to increase in workloads. However, the growth was only marginal.
