Turkish Manufacturing PMI Stays At 56.4 In December
(RTTNews) - Turkish manufacturing sector continued to grow in December, but the rate of expansion was the same as in the previous month, survey data from Markit Economics showed Monday.
The headline seasonally adjusted HSBC manufacturing purchasing managers' index was at 56.4 in December, unchanged from November. A reading above 50 indicates expansion of the sector, while one below suggests contraction.
This was the highest reading since May and partly reflected a strong rate of output growth. During the month, new orders received by Turkish manufacturers also increased at a strong pace in December. Moreover, the rate of new export order growth was the fastest in fourteen months.
The amount of people employed within the manufacturing sector increased at a marked pace and the rate of job creation was the fastest in the survey's five and-a-half year history.
In response to greater demand for input goods, the rate of input price inflation quickened to an eight-month high in December. Consequently, companies attempted to pass higher cost burdens on to clients and the average price charged by manufacturers increased for the thirteenth successive month.
