A closely-watched gauge of German business confidence tumbled more than expected in August, with the Munich-based Ifo Institute's business climate index falling to 108.7 from 112.9 in July.
Economists had forecast a decline to 111.
The current conditions index fell to 118.1 from 121.4 in July, while the index measuring expectations over the next six months dropped sharply to 100.1 from 105.
Economists had forecast a decline in the current conditions index to 119.6 and a drop in the expectations index to 102.6.
