
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)U.S. stocks Monday closed with gains for their first session three, ending near highs of the session after a dramatic late-session turnaround.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 68.99 points, or 0.6%, at 11,061.12.
It had fallen as much as 167.3 points and spent much of the day lower, as investors sold stocks on concerns that some European nations were headed for default with reduced support from major economies such as Germany.
The S&P 500 gained 8.04 points, or 0.7%, at 1,162.27
The Nasdaq Composite rose 27.10, or 1.1%, to 2,495.09.
The euro rose against the dollar in the last few minutes of the stock trading session
