U.S. stocks tumble on EU accord doubts, Intel
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
U.S. stocks closed broadly lower Monday as ratings agencies and investors cast doubts on the effectiveness of a European Union agreement that was met with some fanfare by markets Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 162.87 points, or 1.3%, to 12,021.39.
More than 4% drops in Bank of America Corp. and Intel Corp. shares led declines for all but two of the index's 30 components.
Intel tumbled after the chipmaker issued a sales warning.
The S&P 500 dropped 18.72 points, or 1.5%, to 1,236.47, led by pullbacks in financials and natural-resource sectors.
The Nasdaq Composite lost 34.59 points, or 1.3%, to 2,612.26.
