SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
Sales of videogame software rose 15% in the month of November thanks to the strong performance of several new releases in the month -- including the popular "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3." According to a report issued by the NPD Group on Friday afternoon, game software sales in the U.S. totaled about $1.67 billion compared to $1.45 billion for last November.
NPD figures do not include games and expansion content sold over digital channels.
Sales of game hardware fell by 9% during the month.
Activision's "Call of Duty" was the top-selling game for the month, followed by "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" from privately held Bethesda Softworks. "Battlefield 3" from Electronic Arts held the third spot, followed by "Assassin's Creed: Revelations" and "Just Dance 3" from Ubisoft.
