HONG KONG (MarketWatch)
Mainland Chinese stocks jumped in late afternoon
trading Tuesday, with the benchmark indexes on the two main bourses rising at
least 4% as strong fourth-quarter economic growth data eased worries about a
hard-landing.
The Shanghai Composite rose 4.2% to
2,298.38, while the Shenzhen Composite Index climbed 5% to 859.10 after each
declined in the past four trading sessions.
Shares of Aluminum Corp. of China
Ltd.,
Zijin Mining Group Co. and
shipping major China Cosco Holdings Co. each
jumped by the day's 10% limit.
The performance also boosted shares in Hong Kong,
where the benchmark Hang Seng Index added
2.5% to 19,481.21
