LONDON (MarketWatch)
The United Kingdom's fourth-quarter gross domestic
product shrunk 0.2% quarter on quarter, pinched by weakness in the production
and construction sectors, according to data released by the Office for National
Statistics on Wednesday
Analysts were looking for a drop of 0.1%
Construction
output fell 0.5%, compared with an increase of 0.3% in the prior quarter
Distribution, hotels and restaurants increased by 0.7%
Business services and
finances rose 2.1%, outpaced by a 2.5% increase in the government and other
services sector
