Australia current-account deficit widens 44%

SYDNEY (MarketWatch)
Australia's current-account deficit rose by 2.6 billion Australian dollars ($2.8 billion), or 44%, to A$8.4 billion in seasonally-adjusted terms in the three months to Dec. 31, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday
Exports of goods and services increased by A$336 million, while imports increased A$2.9 billion, the ABS said
Economists had been expecting a current-account deficit of A$8.0 billion, according to data compiled by Dow Jones Newswires.
