Panasonic Corp. plans to close a California plant that makes silicon wafers for solar cells, with about 140 workers to be affected, the Nikkei business daily reported Wednesday
The plant's operator, Sanyo Solar U.S.A., will be liquidated by October and the silicon operations moved to a new facility in Malaysia, the report said
It said workers at the old factory would "basically be terminated, but will be offered assistance for re-employment."
