U.S. stocks stretch gains to third day on earnings


SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
U.S. stocks ended higher Thursday, extending gains for two of the three benchmark indexes into a third day, as a rash of earnings reports and outlooks stoked enthusiasm for share purchases
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 113.90 points, or 0.9%, to 13,204.62, with Chevron Corp. and International Business Machines Corp. adding the most to the index's point gains
The S&P 500  rose 9.29 points, or 0.7%, to 1,399.98
It topped 1,400 intraday for the first time in three weeks
It was the third day of gains for the S&P 500 and Dow
The Nasdaq Composite added 20.98 points, or 0.7%, to 3,050.61
