The European Central Bank is pushing for Jose Manuel Gonzalez-Paramo to
become the new governor of the Bank of Spain, replacing Miguel Angel Fernandez
Ordonez, who last week announced he was stepping down June 10, one month earlier
than scheduled, Cinco Dias reported in its Tuesday Internet edition

Recent press reports had initially suggested as strong candidates Luis Maria
Linde, a former general director of the Bank of Spain, and Fernando Becker, ex
chairman of state-owned business support group Instituto de Credito Oficial, or
ICO, and currently a director at Spanish utility Iberdrola SA
