Microsoft swings to $492 million loss on aQuantive charge; revenue rises to $18.1 billion

Microsoft Corp. on Thursday reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $492 million, 6 cents a share, on revenue of $18.06 billion, compared with a profit of $5.9 billion, or 69 cents a share or $17.37 billion in the same period a year ago
Excluding charges related to a writedown in its online services business, and deferred revenue for Windows operating system upgrades, Microsoft would have earned 73 cents a share on $18.6 billion in sales
Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research had forecast Microsoft to earn 62 cents a share on revenue of $18.15 billion in the quarter ended June 30
