U.S. stocks fall after Fed fails to boost economic stimulus


NEW YORK (MarketWatch) 
U.S. stocks tallied mild losses Wednesday after the Federal Reserve held pat on monetary policy and paved the way to further stimulus ahead
"Today's announcement was priced in, the markets got exactly what they expected
The fireworks are tomorrow," Jim Russell, chief equity strategist for U.S. Bank Wealth Management, said of expected stimulus from the European Central Bank after its meeting Thursday
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%, to 12,976.13
The S&P 500 index  shed 4 points, or 0.3%, to 1,375.32
The Nasdaq Composite lost 19.31 points, or 0.7%, to 2,920.21
