SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)
Blue-chip stocks finished slightly higher Tuesday, while the S&P 500 index and Nasdaq Composite edged lower, pulling back for a second-straight session after last week's gains
The Dow industrials closed up 11.54 points, or 0.09%, at 13,564.64
The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.87 point to 3,177.80, and the S&P 500 shed 1.87 points, or 0.1%, to 1,459.32
"The market currently needs more [economic] data to suggest the value of this market is either under or overvalued to move forward," said Robert Fuest, COO and head of investment research at Landor & Fuest Capital Managers
"If we see a sharp drop in jobless claims on Thursday and housing starts tomorrow show stronger promise as I suspect, I think we see another week of gains."
