Dow, S&P 500 end lower; Apple, Facebook help lift Nasdaq into positive territory


NEW YORK (MarketWatch)
U.S. stocks ended mostly lower on Monday, with the S&P 500 index dropping 2.86 points, or 0.2%, to 1,406.29 and ending a five-session winning streak
The Dow Jones Industrial Average  declined 42.31 points, or 0.3%, to end at 12,967.37, with American Express Co. among the top decliners in the blue-chip index
Bucking the negative trend, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index rose 9.93 points, or 0.3%, to end at 2,976.78, with Facebook Inc. up 8.1% and Apple Inc. up 3.2%
