Syria attack can't go unanswered, Obama says

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)
A chemical attack on Syrians by the Bashar Assad regime cannot go unanswered, President Barack Obama said Friday, shortly after the White House released what it said was evidence of an attack against civilians on Aug. 21
Speaking at the beginning of a meeting with Baltic leaders, Obama said he hasn't made a final decision about acting against Syria
But he said the U.S. isn't considering an "open-ended commitment" or a "boots on the ground" approach

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- President Barack Obama on Saturday said he would seek congressional authorization on the use of military force against Syria. Obama also said he had decided military action is appropriate. Obama made his statement from the White House Rose Garden hours after a United Nations weapons inspections team left Syria. "I know well we are weary of war," Obama said. "That's why we're not contemplating putting our troops in the middle of someone else's war. But we are the United States of America, we can not and must not turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus," he added of the Aug. 21 attack that Washington contends killed 1,429 people
