E-commerce sales rose to a record $67 billion in the third quarter, the latest Commerce Department data released
That’s a gain of 3.6% on a seasonally adjusted basis from the second quarter, and represents a gain of 17.5% from the same period of 2012
As a share of total sales, e-commerce represented 5.9%
IHS Global Insight expects that portion to grow to over 7% by 2016
“Clearly the clicks are outpacing the bricks,” says Chris Christopher of IHS
Christopher however is not bullish on the holiday season
“The recent loss in consumer mood does not bode well for holiday retail sales, since confidence is a key driver in how much discretionary spending is likely to happen in November and December,” he added in a note to clients
