Home Depot Inc.'s fiscal third-quarter profit jumped 43% as the retailer's same-store sales and transaction volume improved.

Consumer spending has been slack amid the slow economic recovery, but stores selling home improvement products such as Home Depot and Lowe's Cos. have been a bright spot in the retail sector, benefiting from improvement in home construction and new home sales.

Home Depot again raised its outlook for the year, now predicting earnings of $3.72 a share on revenue growth of 5.6%, from its prior view of $3.60 a share and 4.5% revenue growth.

Home Depot regularly reports conservative outlooks, and has repeatedly raised its guidance throughout this year.

For the quarter ended Nov. 3, Home Depot reported its same-store sales rose 7.4%.

In the U.S. the increase was 8.2%

The retailer reported a profit of $1.35 billion, or 95 cents a share, up from $947 million, or 63 cents a share, a year earlier.

Excluding costs related to closing seven stores in China, last year's earnings were 74 cents.

Sales rose 7.4% to $19.47 billion.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had most recently forecast earnings of 90 cents on revenue of $19.18 billion.

The average ticket was 3.2% higher than a year earlier, and the number of customer transactions rose 4%
