Exxon Mobil Corp. reported fourth-quarter profit of $8.35 billion, or $1.91 a share, down from $9.95 billion, or $2.20 a share, in the same period a year earlier as production fell
Total revenue declined to $110.9 billion from $114.7 billion a year earlier
Analysts had expected the world's largest publicly traded oil and gas company to produce earnings of $1.91 a share on revenue of $114 billion, according to a FactSet survey
The company said oil-equivalent production fell 1.8% compared with the fourth quarter of 2012

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. WMT -0.94% fell 1.6% Friday after the retailer cut its guidance for profits in the quarter ending Jan. 31. The firm said it expects to earn between $1.50 and $1.60 per share from continuing operations in its fiscal fourth quarter. That includes a hit from the impact of closing 50 stores in Brazil and China, as well as a transaction in India. "We now anticipate that our underlying EPS for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 will be at or slightly below the low end of our range of $1.60 to $1.70," said Charles Holley, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. chief financial officer. Analysts polled by FactSet had anticipated earnings per share of $1.65 in the fourth quarter.
