SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Natural gas prices moderately pared their losses Thursday following a report that showed an increase in natural gas in storage at the lower end of expectations, but then resumed their earlier trend of steeper losses. Natural gas for June delivery lost 10 cents, or 2%, to $4.08 per million British thermal units. The Energy Information Administration said stockpiles rose 76 billion cubic feet in the week ended May 14. Analysts polled by Platts had expected an increase between 76 and 80 billion cubic feet.
