(RTTNews) - The number house purchase loans in the UK fell by 4% month-on-month to 39,900 in December, the Council of Mortgage Lenders said Friday. On an annual basis, there was a decline of 37%. In terms of value, house purchase loans decreased 5% month-on-month to GBP 5.7 billion in December. Annually, loans plunged 33%.
There were 23,400 remortgage loans, down 16% month-on-month and annually. At the same time, its value fell by 17% to GBP 2.9 billion.
In 2010 as a whole, there were 529,300 house purchase loans worth GBP 77.1 billion. It compares with 511,700 loans worth GBP 69.3 billion in 2009.
