German Oct. Ifo business index falls to 106.4

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch)
The Munich-based Ifo Institute on Friday said its German business climate index fell to 106.4 in October from 107.4 in September.
"The business situation of the firms is not quite as excellent as in the past few months.
Regarding business in the coming half year, the companies are more skeptical than before," said Ifo President Hans-Werner Sinn.
"Given the international turmoil, the German economy is still performing well," he said.
The index measuring current conditions fell to 116.7 from 117.9 in September.
The expectations index, which gauges sentiment for business prospects in the next six months, fell to 97.0 from 97.9. T
he index readings are based on around 7,000 monthly survey responses from firms in the manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail sectors.
