Report: Senate Democrats offer $3 trln debt deal

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)
Senate Democrats are pushing the supercommittee to accept a $3 trillion debt-reduction deal that would include as much as $1.3 trillion in new taxes, The Washington Post reported, citing aides from both parties who were at a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.
The newspaper said Sen.
Max Bauchus, a Montana Democrat, proposed the committee look at slightly larger revenue increases than what President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner discussed but didn't agree over the summer.
The idea got pushback from Republicans on the panel.
The report said it marks the first time either party has put numbers on paper.
