Activity in Britain's manufacturing sector contracted in October, according to a survey of purchasing managers released Tuesday.
The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers index for the sector fell to 47.4 in October from 50.8 in September.
A reading of less than 50 indicates a contraction in activity.
The reading is the lowest since June 2009.
Economists had forecast a reading of 50.2.
