Japanese industrial production fell 2.6% in November, swinging from a 2.4% gain the previous month, with drops in transport equipment and electronics leading the fall, the government reported Wednesday.
The result was well below median expectations for a 0.8% fall, according to a Dow Jones Newswires survey.
However, the production forecasts accompanying the data showed expectations for a sharp 4.8% rise in December, followed by a 3.4% gain in January. Retail sales for November were also lower, falling 2.3% from a year ealier.
