LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch)
The Bank of Japan's closely watched "tankan" survey, released Monday, showed sentiment among large manufacturers turned broadly positive in the April-June quarter for the first time since mid-2011
The sentiment reading for large manufacturing enterprises rose to plus 4 from the previous quarter's minus 8
The result was in line with projections from a Dow Jones Newswires survey and just above a plus-3 estimate from a Reuters poll
Large non-manufacturers also showed improved sentiment, with the index rising to plus 12 from plus 6 in the January-March period, beating a plus-11 forecast from Reuters
Among medium-sized manufacturers, sentiment improved to minus 4 from minus 14, while small manufacturers also trimmed their pessimism from negative 19 to negative 14
